Description

WEST SIDE OF THE FRONT DOOR SURROUND, LA CASA NUEVA, BEFORE RESTORATION Color: Brown A copy of a color polaroid photograph of the front door surround at La Casa Nueva before restoration, 18 June 1979. The doorway is at the left with the end of the screen door seen open and latched, while the main door appears to be open also. The outer part of the surround is better visible because of outside light, while the inner part is much more difficult to see. Judging, however, from the condition of the plaster, it seems that this image was taken before repainting was undertaken. It is also notable that a doorbell is on the inside and is possibly the original one or location. To the right is part of the Thomas Temple window to the west of the door and it appears that there is plywood in place of the original which had been stolen and before a reproduction was made and installed. On the reverse in black ink is the inscription "Temple Mansion / Main (north) entry / detail of decorative / polychrome plaster / at architrave (around / dr. frame) / restoration in process / photo archt 6/18/79." Below this, covered by a piece of tape, is the stamp of restoration architect Raymond Girvigian with his name, address and telephone number. The stamp is smeared and part of the stamp imprinted below and to the left, but the image is in otherwise good condition. Number-Units: 1
