WEST SIDE OF THE ORIGINAL PUMP HOUSEEntry/Object ID

Color: Black; White
A black and white photograph of the west side of the original pump house, ca. 1977. The photographer, Al Sylvanus, stood near where the center driveway gate now is and took this view of the building, which had wood, horizontally placed boards; a peaked shingled roof, and a small dormer, projecting out of the southern side of the roof. A window at the upper left of the west side was not replicated in the rebuilt structure, though the window at the south end was recast in the new structure. Behind the pump house, partially covered by the branches of an oak tree is the Water Tower, with its walls appearing to be either plastered or stuccoed. The wood platform at the top shows signs of wear and damage and was replaced in restoration. A chain-link fence with barbed wire at the top surrounds these structures. The initial grading for the Pio Pico Memorial Walkway appears to be at the right and a berm of dirt is between this walkway and the pump house and water tower. On the reverse in black ink is the inscription "Pump House / WEST ELEV. - south end / taken ca. late 1976-77 / before restoration / by Al Sylvanus (deceased) / with Architect's office / negative on file at latter." Below this is the stamp for restoration architect Raymond Girivigian with his address and phone number. Toward the bottom left is the date stamp "NOV 14 1981." There is no discernible wear or damage on the image, which is in good condition.
