Description
A cabinet photograph of the White Co.at an unnamed dining hall during a tourist excursion, Los Angeles, 1899. The group is about thirty persons posed on the wide stairs leading to the hall. At the lower right are two men in conductors' uniforms, one holding a broadside that has a a balloon, the words "White Co." on it, and the word "excursion" is also visible. It is likely this is a Pacific Electric Railway Company "Balloon Route" excursion through the greater Los Angeles area. There are also men in cook's aprons and hats and other uniformed persons, likely employed at the dining hall. On the reverse is a pencil inscription "Los Angeles, Calif / White Co. 1899". There is also a photographer's stamp, but it is very faded and the name is only partially visible [Charles L. Mc Carney?] with an address. The upper right corner is held with tape and there are two other sections on the reverse with tape. With significant edge rubbing, but the image largely clean, the overall condition is good.
