Description

"Willow Dale Press," Vol. 1, No. 12, December 1879. Published at San Gabriel as "an amateur paper" by A. F. and A. N. Carter, the children of the founder of Sierra Madre, the item has poetry, an article on a speech by Mark Twain, humor, a list of top scholars at San Gabriel's elementary school, death notices (including for E.J.C. Kewen, a prominent local), and local news. There are also ads for Los Angeles, Pasadena, and San Gabriel businesses, including that of the proprietors' father. The pair also issued a notice about the uncertainty of continuing publication because of music lessons, homework, baseball and archery, and other concerns. With tears along the horizontal fold and light toning, the condition is fair overall.
