Description

Color: Brown; Green; Red; Yellow A pamphlet, "Winter Resorts," issued by Southern Pacific Railroad Company, 1928. The front panel has the title at the top, the company name at the bottom and an image of two horse riders near a Spanish style building near large mountains. The back panel is a continuation of the front as far as the landscape scene is concerned, with the addition of palm trees. The Top, however, has "Southern California / Desert" at the top with the company name at the bottom. When opened once, two panels have a desert photograph and a quote from mary Austin's book "The Land of Little Rain." When opened from here, pagination begins with 2 and has a narrative of the region's winter desert resorts, with sections on specific resorts, and photographs of many desert landscapes, resort buildings and activities, and Southern Pacific trains. At the center is a map of the United States showing train and sea routes to Southern California, including company and other lines. There are also two boxes of information at the top center and bottom left. The last page is a list of company representatives. In good condition, the artifact has corner and edge abrasions, dents at the back bottom, a loss at the left edge of the back, and tears on the back.
