Color: Brown
A woman's beige silk blouse, ca. 1900. The thin sheer garment has a mesh-like appearance with an inner layer of unadorned fabric joined at hemlines and, on the outer section, embroidered four-petaled flowers, like clovers, and smaller round medallion-like figures throughout. From the collar to the hem, bordering the closing are half-inch wide patterns of vines and four-petaled flowers. Larger five-petaled flowers on vines are found in the area around the neckline and above the closing, where a lapel might be on a jacket. The closing consists of an outer section of metal clasps topped by purple faux jewels and an innersection of clasps and hooks. Halfway down the sleeves are two bands: a thicker one contains the large five-petaled flowers and vines and the thinner has the four-petaled flowers and vines found around the closing. At the cuffs, which are joined by clasps and hooks, are the larger five-petaled flowers and vines. The back has a single bordered section of the four-petaled flowers and vines running from the collar to the hemline. A very fine mesh collar has a single purple-colored thread as a border. There appears to be no structural wear or damage of significance to the artifact, which is in good condition.
