WOMAN'S BLOUSE WITH EMBROIDERED STRIPED DESIGNS
Color: White
A woman's thin cotton blouse, ca. 1890s. The garment is of a thin mesh-like material with thin vertical sections of embroidered work on the sleeve cuffs and collar as well as on the main body of the piece, both front and back. The cuffs and sleeves have small floral designs and slightly curved lines for borders. This is also true for the main part of the garment, though below the neck two lines curve into the closing. Leading from this point to the hem are five closely-spaced lines. Similar groupings, though of three or four lines, of vertical lines run from the shoulder hem to several inches below. Interspersed between the vertical lines in the main part of the blouse are embroidered floral and leaf designs. The closing has seven buttons spaced rather closely together and then one button at the hem. There is a major tear at the back of the collar and some loose threads and wrinkling, so the artifact is in fair condition.
