Description

Color: White A woman's cotton blouse, ca. 1900. The garment is thin cotton with dual sets of five thin embroidered vertical lines down the front and embroidered cuffs, collar and back. The cuffs and collar contain rectangular borders of circular medallion-like and square designs. On the back, the embroidery work consists of four thin vertical areas with designs in them. Over two of these are larger, wider vertical patterns with round medallions and four-petaled flowers. These two patterns have pinnacle-like tops to them, in which the medallions and flowers continue. From the top hem at varying lengths, between the embroidered designs, are thin strands of vertical stitched lines. The blouse fastens at the collar with metal clasps and hooks. Down the closing front are buttonholes and spaces where buttons should be, but these did not come with the item. Other than being heavily wrinkled, there is a significant tear at the lower back hemline, and a few small stains and a fairly large one on the back of the right sleeve, the artifact is in fair condition.
