Description

WOMAN'S LIGHT COTTON BLOUSE WITH CHECKERBOARD-LIKE PATTERN Color: White A woman's cotton blouse, ca. 1900. The thin fabric garment has a simple design of stitched lines in groupings of four crossing each other horizontally and vertically. A row of piercing is near the collar edges and this is found about halfway down the sleeve and along the line dibiding the front and back of the sleeves, as well. Stitching of a hem on the cuffs indicates that the edges are to be rolled up about two inches. In addition to six buttons on the front closure, including one at the hem, a rope-like draw string with a tassel-like ending attached to the lower part of the collar functions to close the garment. There are two thick stitched bands, unornamented, on the back center. At the back of the collar is a tag with the number 40 under a half-moon like design and the words "TRADE MARK" underneath. Though badly wrinkled, there appears to be little physical wear or damage to the garment, which is in good condition.
