Description
WOMAN'S LIGHT COTTON BLOUSE WITH STRIPED AND EMBROIDERED COLLAR AND CUFFS
Color: White
A woman's cotton blouse, ca. 1900. The garment has cut-work embroidery on the collar and cuffs, consisting of four-petaled floral designs, interlaced with tightly-woven crown-like designs. At both places there are dual sets of thin stitched lines, though on the collar both sets are three lines and on the collar one set is of four lines, while the other is three. Along the upper end of the sleeve are two embroidered floral designs with black dots within the flower and a series of four and five black and white dots between the flowers. This design is somewhat repeated on the back, though there are more dots in the vertical rows where the flowers are. The collar is fastened with three hooks and clasps and has three supports, of bone or ivory, housed in cotton supports stitched to the collar. The closing down the front has eleven cotton buttons. Toward the hemline in the front is another hook and clasp closure, as well as long, thin cotton fabric ties that wrap around to the back for closure. These are housed in strips of fabric stitched near the aforementioned clasp and hook. Other than two noticeable stains on the back, the garment is in good condition.
