Description

Color: Brown A wood chisel used in the manufacture of furniture, ca. 1900. The piece has a metal blade 5 3/4" inches long and a half-inch wide with a pointed end. The other end is connected to the wood handle by a brass piece and, on one side, the words "WARD / [C]AST STEE[L]" are pressed into the metal. The handle has an hourglass-like shape to it with the end thicker than the middle. There are groupings of a single, two and three lines at various points along the handle, evidently for no practical purpose. On one portion of the handle is the name of the owner "H. KOCH" pressed into the wood. There are many scratches and chips in the handle, a significant crack on the brass fitting and rust and corrosion on the brass and on the blade, so the item is in fair condition.
