Description

Color: Brown A wood shaping plane used in the manufacture of furniture, ca. 1900. The piece has a thick section of wood, to which the steel guide is attached on one end of the bottom by five screws one one long, rectangular piece and four screws on the other. Inserted through the wood at a 45-degree angle is the wood handle and steel chisel, which emerges through the bottom and the chisel point extending just past the edge of the guide. Pressed into the wood at one end is the owner's name "H KOCH", the numbers 1 and 10 and what looks like a floral design inside a circle. At the other end are four circles with crosses inside, a few letters "S" and the manufacturer's name "AUBURN TOOL CO. / AUBURN N. Y." There are many scratches and chips as well as surface soiling on the wood and significant corrosion and rust on the steel pieces and the blade, so the item is in fair condition.
