Description

Color: Brown A wood shaping plane used in the manufacture of furniture, ca. 1900. The piece has a thick section of wood with a thin rectangular plate attached by four screws at the bottom, though the guides are the wood undersides of the block. Inserted through the wood at a 45-degree angle is the wood handle and steel chisel, which emerges through the bottom and the dual chisel points extending just past the edge of the wood guide. Pressed into the wood at one end is the number "76," perhaps a model number and the manufacturer's name "OHIO TOOL CO. / COLUMBUS." At the other end is the fraction "1/2" referring to the thickness of wood the tool planes and the owners's name "H. KOCH." There are many scratches and chips as well as surface soiling on the wood and significant corrosion and rust on the blade, so the item is in fair condition.
