Description

WORKMAN FAMILY TOMBSTONE, ST. CUTHBERT'S CHURCH, CLIFTON, ENGLAND Photograph: A color photograph of the Workman family tombstone, St. Cuthbert's Church, Clifton, England, 1995. The stone, which is located along the eastern side of the church, is laying flat along the ground surrounded by grass. The stone appears to be granite, has a floral design at the curved top and has a lengthy text with information about family members. The stone was commissioned by William Workman on his 1851 visit to England. See 97.23.1 for an ink drawing on silk of the proposed stone by Workman's sister, Mary. The photograph was taken by HM volunteer Bill Stone in late May or early June 1995 and is in mint condition. The text partially reads: "SACRED/TO THE MEMORY OF/THOMAS WORKMAN/WHO DIED AT CLIFTON, MARCH 19TH 1843/AGED 87 YEARS/AND OF LUCY HIS WIFE/WHO ALSO DIED AT CLIFTON, OCTOBER 30TH 1830/AGED 59 YEARS/ALSO OF THEIR ELDEST SON/HARRISON WORKMAN.
