Description

WORKMAN HOUSE BASEMENT--REBAR INSTALLED FOR CEMENT FOOTING Color: Black; Brown A color polaroid photograph of the installation of rebar for the preparation of a concrete footing for the Workman House basement, 25 May 1977. It is not clear which portion of the basement this is, but it is against the south bearing wall of the adobe portion of the home. A large pit has been dug in the foreground and a portion of the wall is behind it, shaved back to allow room for a concrete block retaining wall. Lining the pit and also extending up the wall are pieces of rebar with two of the pieces at the intersection of ground and wall shimmed with pieces of wood block. The rebar was to help stabilize the poured concrete when it dried and hardened. A pencil inscription at the bottom reads "Basement Footing Ready For / Pour 5/25/77 (using salvade / #6 bars.)" In good condition, the artifact shows little indication of wear or damage. Number-Units: 1
