Description

Color: Black; White A reproduction black and white photograph of the Workman family home, Clifton, England, ca. 1910. The two-story gabled home is viewed from the adjacent road and is entered from an iron gate at the lower right of center. Attached to the gate is a low brick wall. Behind the wall and fence are bushes and shrubs and there are small trees, bushes and shrubs next to the house with a driveway curving between the house and gate. On this driveway an older woman and a man in a uniform and hat stand looking at the camera. A simple portico with two thin posts and pedimented cover are over the entrance. There may be another entrance at the left, but it is hard to discern. Five windows are on the second floor and at least three on the first. Four chimneys emerge from the roof--ones at the ends of the house and two toward the center. At the extreme left, a part of a roof is visible and a very small part of a stone wall of a building is at the extreme left. This home was inherited by William Workman's father in 1811 after the death of his aunt, Mary Workman Harrison, and remained in family hands until 1868. This image may have been taken in 1910 when members of the Workman family visited England. Now a duplex, the structure still stands. As a newly produced photograph, the artifact is in mint condition.
