WORKMAN HOUSE COURTYARD ARBOR BEFORE REBUILDING
Color: Blue; Gray
A color polaroid photograph of demolition of a concrete patio in the Workman House courtyard , 19 April 1979. Taken from the south porch of the house, looking toward the southeast, the image shows a backhoe lifting pieces of broken cement. Aside from the driver of the machine, there are workers standing on either side observing. At background left between the backhoe and the enclosure wall are chunks of concrete and debris from the project. At far right is a corner of the recently rebuilt arbor, while a small portion of the reconstructed porch stairs, including balusters and rails, is in the foreground at lower left. Toward the top right in the background are a few oak trees and part of the shed at the southeast corner of the courtyard. An ink inscription on the reverse reads "Workman Residence / Rear patio / Landscape demolition / preparation for site restoration / photo archt 4/19/79." Below this is a stamp with restoration architect Raymond Girvigian's name, address, and phone number, covered by a strip of tape. Other than an unknown material adhered to the reverse lower right corner, little wear or damage is observed and the artifact is in good condition.
