Description

WORKMAN HOUSE COURTYARD FROM THE SOUTHWEST, CA. 1920s Color: Black; White A black and white reproduction photograph of the Workman House courtyard from the southwest, ca. 1920s, taken in 1995. The image was taken from atop La Casa Nueva's east wing and shows the Workman House at the center of the background. The two-story home has such notable elements as a pitched roof, brackets, arched windows, quoins, keystones, and more. Ivy covers most of the home's west wall at the left. Part of the awning-covered porch is between the building's south wings. At the right is the courtyard where there are several small trees; a small six-sided structure with trellised walls; part of the grape arbor; and another structure which is believed to have been a greenhouse. Across the bottom of the foreground are part of the red tiles and beams of the Mission Walkway. Written in blue pencil at the top left corner of the back is, "RALPH / CAROL TEMPLE COLLECTION / MAY 1995 / SOUTHEAST, WORKMAN HOUSE / FROM LCN EAST 2ND FLOOR PATIO. Contact sheets for the image are items .35-37 with the negatives being items .2.1-.17. The artifact has no visible sign of damage or wear and is therefore in good condition. Number-Units: 1
