WORKMAN HOUSE NORTH PORCH, WEST END PLASTER STRIPPING
Color: Brown; White
A color polaroid photograph of plaster stripping at the north side of the Workman House, ca. June 1978. To the left is the entrance door into the center room of the house, with a window, having a single sheet of glass, not the double hung window which was added later, to its right and a door at the corner, to the far right. All three are painted white, though it is not known if this was preexisting or in preparation for restoration. Most of the wall, except for sections around the center door frame, is denuded of the most recent layer of plaster, leaving, for the most part, the historic "granite blocks" decorative plasterwork, though it was gouged for the preparation of the more modern layer of plaster. Below the window, above the door at right and at the top of the wall are sections of exposed adobe. Also at the top are sections of the lath for the ceiling. At the bottom of the image is the porch floor, which appears to be in its as-found condition. On the reverse is an ink inscription reading "Workman Residence / North Porch plaster / restoration (uncovering / of early plastering work) / photo Jeff Tyler, Alhambra / R-5 #30 / ca. 6/78." Beneath this is a stamp of restoration architect Raymond Girvigian with his name, address, and telephone number, covered with a piece of tape. With little indication of damage or wear, the artifact is in good condition.
