WORKMAN HOUSE NORTH VIEW WITH WORKMAN FAMILY, CA. 1870s
Color: Black; White
A black and white photograph of the Workman house with William Workman and family members, ca. 1870s. Seen from the north, the home appears across the center and has two gables on the far left and right over wings, with the center portion of the roof hipped. Wood shingles cover the roof which also has a brick chimney on the top far left and right, and molded brackets lining the bottom edging. On the bottom center of both gables are semicircular windows with a bracket on either side near the top, and sill across the bottom. Below these is a triple-fronted window which has a rounded cornice; three mouldings on each cornice arch; and brackets on either side of the cornice ends. The railing of an exterior staircase is seen on the far left, and in the center is the north porch which has a paned-glass window on the right; turned balusters; five plain posts; and five steps leading to the landing. William Workman stands on the third step facing to the left and wears a dark suit and hat. Below the porch stairs are two women in long skirts holding infants in their arms, and a little boy to the right; two men in hats and coats stand on the far right in front of the northwest wing. In the left foreground is a wall and bushes, while across the center is a field of wheat and a rose bush. A few trees and a wood structure with a pitched roof can be seen in the background left. There are three identical images with the same number and a negative in 99.6.10.222 and the artifact is in good condition.
