WORKMAN HOUSE SOUTH PORCH, WEST END PLASTER STRIPPING
Color: Brown; White
A color polaroid photograph of plaster stripping at the south side of the Workman House, ca. June 1978. To the right is the entrance door into the center room of the house. The frame appears to be stripped down to bare wood. The portion of the wall to the left is denuded, except for adjacent to the door frame, of the most recent layer of plaster, leaving, for the most part, the historic "granite blocks" decorative plasterwork, though it was gouged for the preparation of the more modern layer of plaster. Towards the left edge is a section of exposed adobe, apparently along a crack which seems rather wide at one point. At the top are sections of the adobe wall and above this rafters for the ceiling. At the base of the wall below the baseboard which is a white color. At the bottom of the image is the porch floor, which appears to be in its as-found condition. Some debris is at lower left and the right edge. On the reverse is an ink inscription reading "Workman Residence / South Porch - west end / prior to restoration / photo Jeff Tyler, Alhambra / R-5 #27 / ca. 6/78." Beneath this is a stamp of restoration architect Raymond Girvigian with his name, address, and telephone number, covered with a piece of tape. With little indication of damage or wear, the artifact is in good condition.
