Description

WORKMAN HOUSE SOUTHEAST ROOM EXTERIOR BEFORE RESTORATION, 1978 Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of the Workman House southeast room exterior, ca. July 1978. Taken before restoration, the room is featured in the center with the wall's plaster entirely stripped on the first floor, and half stripped on the second. With the underlying red-brick revealed, the room had a triple-fronted window in the center of the first floor with triple-arched cornice; brackets on either side of the cornice ends; decorative columns; and wood shutters which are pictures closed. Portruding block designs line the far edges of the room and end above the window where the home's pitched roof begins; molded brackets line the perimeter of the roof's bottom edge. A semicircualr window is in the middle of the second floor with a molded bracket on either end near the top. Part of the wood-shingled roof and south porch, which has turned balusters and plain posts, can be seen in the background left; to the far right is a portion of an opened gate. Sitting in the left foreground is a metal scaffold with construction debris scattered below, and the branches of a tree across the top. Written in black on the back top left is: "WORKMAN RESIDENCE/ -S. E. CORNER, SOUTH SIDE - BEFORE RESTORATION/ -JEFF TYLER, ALHAMBRA, Ca. - photo NEG. #114/ -NO SCALE/ -taken ca. Jun/ July 1978. To the right is a stamp with the name and business information of Raymond Girvigian, the restoration architect; another stamp below has the date, "NOV 14 1981." With no signs of wear, the image is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
