Description

Color: Black; Orange; White A pamphlet on Yosemite National Park, issued by the Yosemite Valley Railroad Company, Merced, California, 1928. The front cover has "YOSEMITE" at the top and the company name and place of business at the bottom. Between these is an image of a man and woman seated and looking at a silhouetted image of Hal Dome. The back cover is identical, except that the image shows Yosemite Lodge and a few trees. Upon opening, there is a two-panel article, "A Memorable Trip," with an image of a railroad caboose. Other pages include descriptions and photographs of such notable sites in the park as Half Dome, Mirror Lake, The Three Brothers, Yosemite Falls, sequoia trees, Exchequer Dam, and others. At the center is a map of the railroad's line and a description of scenes along the path of the train's route into the Valley at El Portal, where the depot was, from Merced. At the back are maps showing access to Yosemite from Merced and proximity from San Francisco and Los Angeles and of Yosemite National Park. There are also sections at the rear on lodgings, with rates, and information on Pullman service from San Francisco and Los Angeles with timetables and rates. There are pencil inscriptions, including the date "1-1-28" on the bottom of the back cover. In fair condition, the artifact has cover creases, light soiling, small stains, edge abrasions and rubbing, and scratches.
