Scope and Content

This collection consists of memorabilia belonging to Margaret Hood, research about Margaret Hood, and the draft of her diaries. It is an artificial collection of philanthropist Margaret Scholl Hood, who gave the College its first endowment and assisted it with purchasing the land where it now sits. The college was changed by the Board of Trustees to Hood College in 1912 and the name change went into effect in 1913. She was a graduate of the Frederick Female Seminary and, in her later years, lived at the Womans College of Frederick in Winchester Hall.
