Fireplace LadleDescription
Handwrought iron ladle for use at the fireplace. An accompanying handwritten note from Mrs. Grace Sealey Smith reads, "Small handwrought tongs used by "my pioneers." It is assumed that the ladle is also of the same period. The pioneers mentioned were probably Alfred S. and Phoebe Eliza Weeks who came to Hudson in 1850. Richard Weeks, Alfred's father, bought shares in the Hudson Colony when it was first organized by Horatio Pettit in 1836.
