Description

This book provides an intimate account of 1935-1941 efforts to colonize the five equatorial coral islands in the Pacific by the United States Departments of Commerce and the Interior with Hawaiian youth. The author, E. H. Bryan, Jr., was part of the first expedition in 1935 having first traveled to Jarvis, Howland and Baker and later to Canton and Enderbury. He was an honorary member of the group "Hui Panala'au." This group was first organized on February 8, 1939 as "Hui Kupu ʻĀina." It later became known as "Hui Panala'au" and served to foster fellowship amongst the Hawaiian "colonist" youth. This book is decided to the Hui Panala'au and its members to further the work of the hui. Contains text, images, maps.
