This work by Nicholas Sassoon joins the Humber Art Collection as a commission for the 6th Floor elevator lobby of the LRC Building at Humber North Campus. Selected to address a gap of digital arts in the collection, Rockies is a piece from the artist’s Wallpaper series. Sassoon’s cel-shaded digital rendering of the iconic mountain range, in pixelated black, white, and teal, contrasts the monumentality of the physical entity with a flattened, visually simplified surface. A detail view of the work illustrates how the work is comprised of endless dots, crosses, squares and other patterning, showing the intricacy of pixel art techniques on a large, almost monumental scale, as opposed to its usual expression in the form of video game sprite & background art.Artwork Details
