Jutai Toonoo’s expressive self-portrait is characteristic of the artist’s approach to figurative drawings and his interest in creating works that portray the human face in a liminal or transformative state. His face and form appear to fade into the vibrantly-coloured background, the play of light and shadow giving the artist’s features a dreamlike cast.
