The Texas and Louisiana Land and Lumber Company, the Texas Pine Land Association, formed with Nathaniel Silsbee, provided Kirby with a fortune. Bostonian Nathaniel Silsbee and Ellington Pratt , with Kirby, brought the Gulf, Beaumont and Kansas City Railroad into Silsbee in 1896. Those successful investments lasted in making Silsbee, Texas, a southeast Texas a small town.
