Description

Black velvet circle skirt with hand painted designs and sequin embroidery. The designs depict a colorful landscape of snowcapped mountains and cacti, with Mexico's national emblem (coat of arms) on one side of the skirt and an ancient pyramid on the other. A metallic gold, glitter-like embossing outlines all drawings, and is then painted over with metallic paints in orange, blue, purple, yellow gold, silver and green colors. A gold glitter border along the skirt's hem features suns and stylized tribal masks, possibly Indian Aztec. The skirt has a waistband and two side seams. It closes on the side with a metal zipper and hook and eye closure. The velvet has a stiff woven backing. All sequins are hand sewn on and are mostly purple or green. Gold and silver sequins were used for the national emblem drawing. The featured pyramid might be the pyramid of the sun at Teotihuacan.
