Description

This ensemble includes a long-sleeved blouse and a matching gathered skirt, both made from high-quality printed cotton poplin in a magenta floral pattern with blue and yellow flowers. The construction features meticulous hand-finishing, particularly in the piping and pleating. The blouse is full and loose-fitting, with finely gathered sleeves and torso sections stitched to a fitted yoke. Bright yellow cotton piping outlines the yoke, cuffs, neckline, and button closure. The back includes additional pleating and hand-piped panels for shape and ornamentation. The neckline fastens with a small button and loop. The skirt is equally voluminous and finely made, featuring dense hand-gathering at the waistband. Horizontal ruffles add fullness and movement. The waistband is attached by hand stitching—both functional and decorative. Yellow piping follows the ruffle lines and hem, visually tying the two garments together. The full circular sweep of the skirt allows for graceful movement and ventilation, appropriate for the rugged terrain and climate of the Sierra Tarahumara.
