Amuzgo huipil yokeEntry/Object ID
2024.02.030Description
This textile panel features a rectangular yoke fragment from an Amuzgo huipil, characterized by dense, multicolored brocade embroidery across a cotton fabric base. The base structure alternates between plain weave and gauze weave, enhancing the dimensionality of the embroidered motifs. Floral, geometric, and zigzag patterns in pink, orange, red, green, and violet tones span the surface. The neckline is finished with a decorative blue crocheted edge. The embroidery is executed in a tightly packed, looping brocade stitch, creating a slightly raised texture. All four edges are raw and unfinished, suggesting that this was removed from a larger garment.Ethnography
