Description

This wide-brimmed sombrero is tightly woven from natural palm or straw fibers using a concentric spiral coiling method. The crown is low and rounded, gradually sloping from the top toward the brim. The brim itself is broad and slightly flared, with a finely finished edge showing a herringbone weave pattern along the rim for reinforcement and decoration. A handwoven hat band encircles the base of the crown. The band is made from brightly colored cotton, predominantly orange, and features intricate multicolored brocade-style motifs typical of Maya Quiché textile traditions. The band is tied at the front into a short orange braid with tassels.
