Description

This small shirt is woven from high-quality cotton using a plain weave structure on a backstrap loom. The fabric consists of three selvage edges—two vertical and one horizontal—while the fourth edge (warp end) has been hemmed rather than finished with a woven selvage, a choice likely made to save time. The garment features two narrow vertical black stripes woven into the white ground, a minimal but effective decorative element common in traditional Mixtec men's garments. The neckline is a rounded slit, reinforced with hand embroidery in red and navy threads to prevent fraying and add a subtle visual accent. The short sleeves are straight extensions from the main panels and display red whip-stitched seams and slight gathering under the arm. The overall construction is simple yet precise, scaled down from the adult male camisa worn in Mixtec communities.
