Description

A wood carved sculpture of St. Lucas. The figure is carved sitting on a bench. The piece is painted. St. Lucas has black hair and a beard and a red crown on his head. He is wearing a dark blue robe with long sleeves. There is a large "X" design painted on the lower half. he holds an open book, painted yellow, in his left hand. In his right is a red and black quill pen (see 86.6.22.2). The bench is painted yellow. The bench back is carved to look like flames and is painted red with white lines. The arm rests are curved and painted black with red and yellow designs. The St. Lucas figure is attached to the bench. The bull figurine (86.6.22.3) fits next to him on the bench. Saint Lucas. Xalitla, Guerrero, Mexico. Probably Z. Claimed c. 1935 (probably c. 1975-1985). Saint Lucas Figure seated on high bench.
