Engravings from "Histoire Generale des Ceremonies", Benard Picart. Amsterdam, Holland. Benard Picart. 1720-1730. Two views on one sheet. Top view titled, "Maniere Dout L'Yncas Marie Ceux De son Sang". (Translation, " Manner in which Incas Marry Those of Their Blood".) Depicts group of people standing outdoors, men dressed in chlamys clothing, short, oblong mantles; women in simple garments, long earrings and bands above their elbows; background shows domed and square buildings. Bottom view titled, "On Coupe les Cheveux, et On Donne un Nom aux Fils de L'Yncas". (Translation,"His Hair Is Cut and a Name is Given to a Son of the Incas".) Shows a group of people gathered indoors; men wearing chlamys garments, short oblong mantles; bands and headresses on their head; walls decorated with animal and human sculptures; some younger figures naked; women in simple garments, one figure seated with child on her lap.
