Description

Engravings from "Histoire Generale des Ceremonies", Benard Picart. Amsterdam, Holland. 1720-1730. Five views on one sheet. Top left view contains two titles, "Porcelain Shell Necklace" and, "Strands of Porcelain Shell". The first depicts a rectangular belt with woven beads, dark and light. They form a zig-zag pattern which is curved. The second shows four laces of large and small beads. Top right upper view title, "Cage to Huscanawer the Novices". This depicts a high-domed structure. Top right upper middle view title, "Tomahawk". This view is above the domed structure illustration. It depicts a tomahawk knife blade with a cloud motif, which curves. Middle view contains two titles, "War Club" and, "Peace Pipe". Depicts an iron club on top; a steel file piece on the bottom. Bottom view title, "Another Pipe of Peace of the Virginians". This depicts a long smoking pipe with wings.
