Description

This Zapotec girl's blouse features traditional handwoven cotton muslin (manta), soft and lightweight, suitable for the warm climate of Oaxaca. The garment is designed with a wide yoke heavily adorned with multicolored cross-stitch embroidery depicting human figures, likely young girls, in alternating colors. This design continues down the center front, framing the neckline and extending vertically to mid-chest. The sleeves are gathered with fine smocking at the shoulders and cuffs, finished with red zig-zag stitching. The blouse is machine-assembled, yet retains high craftsmanship in its hand-finished embroidered details. The lower hem is plain with frayed selvage edges.
