Description

This is a handcrafted folk figure of a man made primarily from corn husks, yarn, and additional natural and synthetic materials. The figure stands dynamically on a rectangular wooden base, one foot lifted mid-step, with arms raised to support a colorful pyrotechnic frame. The figure's clothing includes stylized pants and a long-sleeved shirt with a green cross-body sash. The face is detailed with expressive features constructed from coiled corn husk, black felt or yarn eyebrows, a mustache, as well as painted lips and toenails. The man wears a wide-brimmed hat and has thick yarn hair. Atop the figure is a lively construction representing a torito or fireworks frame, formed from dyed corn husks, wooden rods, and plastic or foil embellishments, and topped by a painted bull’s head with bulging eyes and exaggerated red lips. The figure’s right hand is detachable and appears to be made from a molded and painted clay.
