2024.02.036Description
This three-piece ensemble includes a hand-sewn cotton blouse, a full gathered skirt, and a twisted cotton headband, all in a plain natural white tone. The blouse features full-length sleeves gathered at the cuffs, a straight cut body, and minimal decoration, aside from dark red bias tape edging a central opening, which ends in a stitched tab. The skirt is voluminous and tiered, gathered at the waistband with a drawstring closure. Its wide hem and tier seams are accented by a narrow red trim. The accompanying headband is a twisted strip of matching cotton cloth, likely worn wrapped around the head and knotted. The outfit was likely originally paired with a wide handwoven wool sash to fasten the blouse inside the skirt, although the sash is not included.Ethnography
