Description

8 7/8 inches x 3 1/2 inches (widest point) x 1/2 inch. Two pieces of wood, much wider at one end than other, but mirror images, meet flush in the middle. The pieces of wood slide against one another by means of 2 brackets that allow movement but hold the pieces of wood together. At narrower end of wood a brass needle & eye protrude. On other, another piece of brass protrudes which is on a spring. On one end of narrow end of wood is an eye made of metal. Unknown use. Original Inscription: E. Ross & Co's Machine This may have been a hook rug or latchhook rug tool, to punch yarn through burlap and then cut it off to make a pile rug.
