4 pages of a well-written letter from a sailor on the Sch Lillian while in Portland harbor. C 1.5 pages on "a sailor's life," 1 page on Uncle Tom's Cabin, slavery, his doubts that the hot-headed abolitionists would educate the freed slaves properly, and 1.5 pages on the rescue of the crew of a sinking Sch Xerxes of Nova Scotia out of Boston. Written in December, mentions a friend Nathaniel, other ships James Bliss, Centurion Globe, Amanda H, Newell, Kosiusko Raven, M E Trout Captain Collamace, and "several sail of the line." Possibly 1850s.
