This folder holds two newspaper clippings. The first came from the Bangor Daily News on October 12 (1921?). It talks about a lightning bolt hitting a "schoolhouse at North Islesboro." It highlights the heroics of the teacher, Miss Myrtle Pendleton, in evacuating her twenty students from the building. This incident is also reported in a letter by Mrs. Joseph A. Pendleton from the day of the lightning strike. This letter's ID number is SC 497 2007.020.001 . The second clipping is also from the Bangor Daily News from the date of Saturday, July 7, 1923. The article covers the winners of the Bangor Daily News' Popular Teacher contest. Miss Myrtle L. Pendleton is featured once again as the Waldo County winner.
