Scope and Content

A tri-fold booklet, printed with sides measuring approximately 8.5"x11". On the front cover is a map of the state of Maine with a shaded strip detailing the path of the total eclipse of the sun on July 20, 1963 between 5:41pm and 5:45pm. The booklet, published by the Department of Economic Development, was revised on April 15, 1963 to include further safety information and notes from "Sky and Telescope" Magazine. Inside the booklet are scientific explanations concerning solar eclipses as well as tips for viewing the toal eclipse. The map on the front of the booklet also gives good insight into the development of Maine's interstate highway system, as the "Maine Turnpike" only extends as far north as Waterville and Fairfield on the map.
