9"W x16"L x7"H wood box with hinged lid and metal lock, covered with leather (in bad shape) with metal corner and lid reinforcement fastened to the wood box with closely-spaced roundhead studs. This document box was given by William Boardman to his son Josiah, was in use by Josiah F. Boardman (b. 1820) and handed down "first son to first son" to Josiah's son Edger, Edger's son Herbert, Herbert to Carroll, then to Harland, and would have gone to Raymond his son if he had lived. Harland requested that his daughter Carol return The Box to Islesboro.
The contents are stored elsewhere but all in the "Boardman Collection."
