Scope and Content

1805 Muster Roll of Company under Lieut. Benja Williams. This is enclosed in a black wood frame, 10 1/4 inches by 22 3/4 inches, between two pieces of glass, so that both sides are visible. The paper apparently was folded at one time, and has suffered water damage. On one side, there is the printed heading: Muster Roll of Capt. Company of Foot. 180 The word; "Capt." has been crossed out replaced by, "Lieut" The heading has been filled in , "Benja Williams [180]5 May 1" The officers are listed as Benja. Williams and Thomas Gilkey. The sergeants & Musicians are Jabesh Ames, Elisha Nash and Joseph Jones. Below are listed the names of 45 men and there are columns in which can be check marks or numbers to record their equipment. This information has been filled in for Sergeants Ames and Nash and for the first few men. Most of them had musket, bayonet, cartridge box. iron rod, scabbard and belt, wire and drush, balls and powder. On the back of the paper are "Directions for taking and revising, annually, the Muster-Roll of a Company" from William Donnison, Adjutant-General. At the bottom of the back is written "Lieut. Benjaman Williams Ilsborough" Inside the glass on the back is a note in the handwriting of Alice L. Pendleton: "Presented by Mr. Raymond Coombs" Transcripts of both front and back have been made.
