Large Seth Thomas clock housed in case described in 461.001. Face 14 inches in diameter with Arabic numerals and minute markings and a smaller face 4 inches in diameter underneath the numeral "12" with numerals for seconds, "10", "20",......."60". Pendulum is 26 inches long ending in a bob 7 3/4 inches in diameter. Original Inscription: On clock face: "Seth Thomas"
Special Significance: This was one of the early Seth Thomas battery operated clocks which originally hung in the Dark Harbor Library and was connected to a two-faced outside clock. It now runs this outside clock mounted on the outside of the Islesboro Historical Society building. In 1986 the Society hired a clock specialist, Philip Young in Belfast, to repair the outside clock and wire it to the inside clock so that they would operate and show time in unison. It now runs by electric current rather than battery.
