Letter, original envelope and cover letter.
The envelope is addressed to Mrs. Josephine Barton, Dark Harbor, Maine. The return address is The White House, Washington. It is postmarked at Eastport July 29, 1935. The letter is typed and begins "My dear Mrs. Barton." It ends, "Very sincerely yours, Eleanor Roosevelt, with the signature in ink.The letter says Eleanor would be glad to stay with Mrs. Barton if she had time to come to Islesboro, but she has her own home at Campobello, and needs to spend her time there. The "cover letter," written on an envelope that once held the smaller envelope, says that Annie Mahoney of Rockland found this among her husband, Laurence (?) Mahoney;s papers.
