Scope and Content

A tall blue book with the phrase "Daily Reminders" printed in gold lettering on the front. The inside cover sports a dedication of "Aunt Nora from Courtney and Phyllis". A poem by Ella Wheeler Wilcox is glued to the first page, and below it is the first entry, on Saturday January 1, 1921. In the book she writes mainly about the weather of the day, however in some cases she mentions other things like basketball games at "Union Hall", missionary meetings, Tuesday "Circle" meetings, Order of Eastern Star installations, Town meetings and elections, "Governor P's" funeral on Feb. 3, the "Storky Bird" bringing "baby Kimball" (Feb. 8), Mrs. Robert Boch's death (Feb 18), the birth of Charles A. Pendleton Jr. in Washington DC, (Feb. 26), Hair cuts at "Costello's", the death of Lincoln Gilkey and Maggie Thomas (March 4), the death of Curtis Hatch (March 6), J.A.P selling out to E.L. Sprauge and Ed Leach (March 26), The installation of new telephone cable to Union Hall (April 7), the resignation of Rev. E.P.K. (May 1), the death of "Uncle" Lorenzo (May 4), the death of Solomon Pendleton (May 8), wiring the house for telephone (May 21) and telephone installation (May 30), a cyclone and thunderstorm (May 22), Fires in Capt. G.D. Pendleton and Dr. George Shattuck's pastures (June 24 and 25), and The arrival of Reverend W.M. Lewallen (Nov. 18). The last few pages consist of a smattering of entries from 1922, 1920, and 1923. The May 2, 1922 entry listed Mackerel prices at 28 cents per pound and also told of Amasa Williams' trip to Boston "about his tongue" The May 13, 1922 entry told of the death of "Aunt Charlotte", and under March 6, 1920 the death of Gertrude Randlett Dodge is listed. Amongst the pages of this book is a clipping from a newsletter of ballot listing the candidates for election to the state legislature, among which is Joseph A. Pendleton of Islesboro.
