Description

The picture has been carved out of one piece of wood. The frame is also part of the carving. Frame, 25 inches x 19 1/2 inches x 1 inch. Gold stripe around inside edge of frame. Frame painted black, 1/4 inch around 3 edges of frame and 1 inch at the bottom of the frame, with the inscription, "Viator Owned by Dr. M. A. Alexander Islesboro Maine". Painting consists of a background of water, some trees, and sky. In the foreground is an anchored gasoline launch and some of the water in bas relief. The launch is 15 1/2 inches in length and 3 1/8 inches high including the white smoke stack. There are three flags -- a red pennant with a white stripe at the bow, the American flag at the stern, and a square flag, blue with a yellow cross attached to a pole extending upward from the pilot house. The area above the hull is cut away showing where the staterooms are, etc. Two life rings are at either end of the launch and are inscribed "Viator Islesboro". INSCRIPTION: Viator Owned by Dr. M. A.
